This book deals with the reconstruction of the ritual of the suspected adulteress in Mishna Sotah. It discus the following questions: What led the Rabbis to reinvent a ritual already described at length in the Bible? How do the Mishnaic ritual relate to its Biblical source (Num 5:11-32) and to the reality of the temple? Through specific textual engagement with these and others questions the book suggests a new look at the place of the temple in the post-destruction, Tannaitic, house of study.
