Islamic Enlightenment in a Radical Age opens a window to trends of innovation and openness in modern Islam in the mid-twentieth century, a period marked by decolonization, the rise of centralized regimes, and the emergence of Jihad organizations. Important agents in the development of the reformist discourse were Mustafa al-Saba'i and the "Muslim Brotherhood" in Syria from 1946 to 1964. Under al-Saba'i's leadership, the Muslim Brotherhood strove to establish an Islamic Enlightenment that sought to elevate the stature of believers and integrate them into the wider world, while preserving their indigenous identity. Al-Saba'i's rich intellectual and public work has been neglected in the scholarly literature, and this book brings him to the forefront and does him historical and historiographical justice. Al-Saba'i called for the revival of the heritage of Islam and its connection to universal values ​​of freedom and justice, humanism and brotherhood, democracy and nationalism. He served as a voice for the voiceless in society through a commitment to public education, social legislation, and support for women's rights, subject to moral reservations. By promoting a dynamic version of Islam—attentive and responsive to key issues on the public agenda—Al-Saba'i and his movement contributed to preserving the diversity of Islamic thought in an era of puritanism, radicalization, and violence.

The book opens with teaching the Korean alphabet and introduces the learner to essential topics that they will encounter while learning the language. The book presents the learner with grammar rules and vocabulary components in an organized, step-by-step format that will allow learners to have basic conversations in Korean. Each lesson begins with a dialogue between a Korean and an Israeli on various topics. Thus, while studying, learners are exposed to different Korean traditions and customs. The dialogues are followed by new vocabulary , grammar explanations, and exercises which allow the learner to practice the material . The translations of the dialogues, answer keys for the exercises, and a dictionary containing the words presented, appear at the end of the book. In addition, there is also a list of useful Korean vocabulary for tourists and business people .

David Speaks Chinese teaches Hebrew speakers colloquial and conversational Chinese. It includes over 400 expressions and over 600 words from the daily vocabulary of the Chinese language, as it is spoken in contemporary China. The book emphasizes practical use of the language and includes a large number of examples and exercise questions. These clarify how to use the words and expressions learnt in the book in context – within situations from Israeli daily life as well as the life of foreigners in China. The book is designed for use by students who have already acquired a basic understanding of the Chinese language, and wish to expand their vocabulary and enhance their conversational skills.

The reader consists of 40 stories written in simple Chinese. The majority of the stories revolve around the life of David, an Israeli student taking his first steps in learning the Chinese language. Other stories are based on well known stories and anecdotes adapted from the Chinese tradition to match the level of the Israeli student. The stories are marked by usage of a variety of words and expressions used in everyday situations in China. Each story has alongside the Chinese its Hebrew translation, and above each Chinese character is its phonetic reading written in Pin-Yin, the official phonetic system used in the People’s Republic of China. The reader is designed for use by beginner level students and is focused on improving the student’s ability in reading and comprehending short texts.

Sabbatai Zevi (1626-1676) stirred up the Jewish world of the mid-seventeenth century by claiming to be the messiah, then stunned it by suddenly converting to Islam. His story, and that of the movement he created, is a landmark event in early modern Jewish history and a dramatic example of what can happen when mystic dreams and messianic hopes combine in an explosive mixture. Now, for the first time, English readers can experience these events through the words of those who lived through them, in lucid and compelling translations by a leading authority in the field. Of the contemporary 'testimonies' translated by David J. Halperin, three are accounts by Sabbatai Zevi's followers of the life and deeds of their messiah. These are the Najara Chronicle, an eyewitness narrative which Gershom Scholem called 'one of the most extraordinary documents shedding light on Sabbatai's personality'; Baruch of Arezzo's Memorial to the Children of Israel, a sober yet devout biography of Sabbatai written shortly after his death; and the bizarrely fanciful hagiography composed in 1692 by Abraham Cuenque of Hebron. These 'believers' narratives' are supplemented by two seventeenth-century letters, pungent in their style and colourful in their details, in which Sabbatai and his followers are described by a contemporary rabbi who detested them and everything they stood for. Finally, a reminiscence of Sabbatai's last days, preserved by one of the most independent-minded of his followers, conveys the enigma of the man that was to haunt the generations.
