In the current book two of the most prolific authors in the area of Medieval Judeo-Arabic and poetic Hebrew Medieval texts go back to its basic theses on the relations between Hebrew literature and its parallel Arabic and Judeo-Arabic texts. By re-establishing an up-to-date picture they are attacking the field of encounters from new and different angles.

Chronicle of French and Ottoman Kings was written by a sixteenth-century Jewish doctor of Spanish origin living in Italy. According to the writer, his intention was to document the hardships and injustices suffered by Jews in the Diaspora - especially the expulsion of Jews from Spain and France - and include them in the history of the conflict between the French kinds and Ottoman Empire over the rule in "the land of Judea and Jerusalem." In effect, this is a story, set in chronological order, of selected events in world history, similar in structure and content to hundreds of writings published at the time. It was written in fine biblical Hebrew, and as such was aimed at an audience who knew the language and could appreciate the conflict between the French kings and the Ottoman Empire as representing world history.

This book is Part III of the Foundations of Standard Arabic series . It is direct continuation of the first two parts, builds upon them, and begins from the point reached by the student at the end of part II . This part aims to provide the student with the skill to read advanced texts from the Arabic press and with the tools to read other texts as well. It addresses grammatical issues encountered in modern texts more complex than political press reports, and provides a broad and varied vocabulary, covering a range of fields beyond the political domain. Advancing gradually but rapidly through a range of grammatical and syntactic issues, the book furnishes the student with the ability to tackle complex texts and read them quickly and smoothly. It stresses throughout the inculcation of standard modern Arabic as used today in the printed and electronic media . As in the first two parts, the study method is based on learning Arabic in Arabic in order to develop the full complement of skills (reading, writing and speaking), deepen the student's familiarity with the language and inculcate the vocabulary. The grammatical explanations are precise and stress the learning of correct standard usage, but are sensitive to the changing and dynamic nature of contemporary Arabic . The structure of the book is modular, making it possible to study the various grammatical issues in any order, independently of the texts .

Mount Carmel of Graf von Mülinen is a translated, edited and annotated edition of the monumental Beiträge zur Kenntnis des Karmels , written by Graf Eberhardt von Műinen, a well-known Swiss researcher and diplomat. His book was first published in Leipzig by Baedeker Publishing in 1908 . The work constitutes a meticulous and professional exploration of Mount Carmel in the beginning of the twentieth-century, and an important stepping stone in the chronology of the field. This Interdisciplinary study of the mountain covers a range of fields such as Arabic dialectology, botany, zoology, general geography, geology, climate, anthropology, religion, archaeology and folklore . This book is dedicated to the 44 casualties of the devastating fire on Mount Carmel in December 2010 .

This dictionary contains mainly idioms, which are combinations of words of an idiomatic nature and have an adopted, metaphorical meaning. Some are commonly used expressions, and are not necessarily idiomatic or metaphorical. These second kind of expressions which are termed "collocations" in linguistic parlance have been included only in cases where they do not appear in existing dictionaries of Yiddish. This dictionary offers four options for the user to find the required expressions: 1. By alphabetic order; 2. By alphabetized lists of the equivalent expressions in Hebrew, English and Russian; 3. By a list of the nouns and numerals that appear in the Yiddish expressions; 4. By a subject index. The alphabetized lists of equivalent expressions in Hebrew, English and Russian enable the dictionary to be used in two directions – Yiddish to Other Languages and Other Languages of Yiddish. The expressions in the dictionary are of three types: 1. Expressions which reflect the everyday life of the Jews of Eastern Europe (food, occupations, etc.): 2. This volume contains articles published since the beginning of the 1970s on two peripheral Semitic branches: the Semitic languages of Ethiopia and the Neo-Aramaic written standard based on the dialect spoken in Iran and in the former Soviet Union. The papers deal mainly with synchronic problems of syntax and they tend to analyze specific questions of Neo-Semitic within a perspective oriented towards structural linguistics and typology. Special attention is attached to language contacts and to the impact of the substrates and adstrates - the Cushitic languages in Ethiopia and Kurdish and Persian in the case of Neo-Aramaic - in the formation of Sprachbünde.

This study is an annotated edition and commentary of an Arabic-Old French phrase book found on the last thirteen pages of a Coptic lexicographic treatise compiled in the thirteenth century and recopied in the sixteenth century (MS. BnF Copte 53). The main value of this work is twofold: first, it is a specimen of the Crusader Old French, of which little has been preserved; and second, it provides evidence for the vernacular language of the period. In the analysis of the material, an attempt has been made to reconstruct from a diachronic-diatopic perspective the vernacular French spoken at Acre in the mid-thirteenth century. This volume will be of interest for Romance linguists and philologists, as well as historians of the Crusades and the Latin East. Arabists and historians of the late medieval Muslim Middle East of this time will also find much of use in this work.
