Ezra Fleischer

Ezra Fleischer (1928-2006), Israel Prize Laureate for Hebrew Literature (1959), was professor of Hebrew Literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He founded and headed for forty years the Institute for Research of Hebrew Poetry in the Genizah sponsored by the Israel Academy of Sciences. He published extensively on early piyyut, medieval Hebrew poetry and Jewish prayers and was the leading scholar of these subjects.
