This volume is dedicated to Dov Noy on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. Topics range from The Stereotype of the Jew in Polish Folklore to Folklore Treasures of Oriental Jews.

The collection at hand, the fifth volume in the "Folklore Research Center" series, attempts to cover a wide cultural sphere: England. The articles, naturally, represent different aspects of the subject, but although each study is firmly anchored in a specific area of research, together they form a whole. Photos added.

This volume is somewhat innovative in that, while, covering one subject, it draws upon different and diversified cultural areas. Four papers are devoted to Israel Muslims and others examine the problems of reciprocity in marriage among Jewish and non-Jewish residents of Muslim countries. In addition, these articles which deal with previously unexamined topics such as the story motif of the hero doomed to die on his wedding day and the motif of marriage between man and monster. Papers are also presented on ethnomusicology and sociology.

The contributors to this volume are scholars whose specialty is folklore. Papers in this volume include such diverse subjects as: letters from Eliakum Zunser, some wedding-greetings in Arabic among the Jews of Urfa and Aleppo, material concerning Jews in Polish ethnographical literature, the complete "Midrash Vayisa'u", the family life as reflected in the proverbs of Babylonian Jews, night prayers by the dead, an outline of the development of humor, on the popularity of the legend of Beruriah, wife of Rabbi Meir, the lion in proverbs, the Baha'i community of Acre, about the traditional system of prose of the funeral songs recited by the Jewish women of the S.R.R, the narrative context of the Bedouin qasidah-poem, the zoologically tinged stages of man's existence, etc.
