Limor Shifman is a lecturer at the Department of Communication and Journalism, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her scholarly work focuses on two socio-cultural arenas: humor and communication technologies, as well as on their intertwining. Her studies span film, television and Internet, mainly in Israel, the US, and the UK. Dr. Shifman’s PhD. dissertation, which is the basis for this book, was written at the Department of Communication and Journalism, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
During 2002-2003 she served as head of research for a ten-chapter documentary series on the history of Israeli humor. In the years 2005-2007 Dr. Shifman was a research fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. In that period she was awarded a research grant by the Oxford University Press Fell Fund to carry out a study on Internet humor and gender, and a departmental merit award for excellence in research. She currently investigates various aspects of Internet-based humour, including humor and interactivity, humor about computers and technology, the international spread and translation of online ‘joke memes’, and political online humor. Limor Shifman, born in 1974, lives in Jerusalem with her husband and two children.
