F.W.J.Schelling (1775-1854) is held to be one of the greatest German philosophers after Kant. In the early stages of his work he established a philosophy that strived to overcome the dichotomies which characterize Kant's philosophy. His late philosophy, in which he offered new ways to think of the relation between thought and being, influenced major philosophers such as Kierkegaard and Heidegger
