Dr. Assaf Tamari studies and teaches the intellectual history of the Jewish communities in early modern eastern Mediterranean. His studies focus on the affinities between religious, scientific and political thought, especially in the writings of the Kabbalah. He is the deputy chairman of the Ben Zvi Institute for the Study of Jewish Communities in the East, and teaches at Shalem College and Alma - a Home for Hebrew Culture.
