Dr. Maya Shabbat is a historian of modern Jewish history, specializing in Jewish migration from Eastern to Central Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her research examines the encounter between modern historical consciousness, urban space, language, questions of belonging and memory. Her work examines the challenges of migration and identity conflicts among migrants from the periphery of German-speaking area to the urban centers at the turn of the century.
