Gathered here are thirty ketubot from various medieval Hispanic kingdoms: twelve from Catalonia, four from Majorca, eight Navarrese and three from Castile. The tenth volume of the Hispania Judaica series is dedicated to Dom David Negro and Dom Issac Abravanel, two important Jews from Portugal, whose lives present certain similarities: both were involved in Portuguese political conspiracies and intrigues against the king and the nobility and were forced to escape as political fugitives to Castille where they attained high positions at the court of Juan I and Isabel I respectively. The book is partly based on sources from Portuguese archives, particularly the Arquivo da Torre do Tombo which houses one of the richest collections of medieval documents in Europe. Some of these sources are published in this book for the first time.

The ninth volume of the Hispanic Judaica series brings to life a comprehensive study of the Jews of the Kingdom of Valencia. It is a detailed and fully annotated description of the last stage in Jewish life in this kingdom, i.e. from the riots of 1391 to the Expulsion of 1492.

The history of three neighboring Jewish communities in the medieval Kingdom of Valencia – Burriana, Castellón de la Plana and Villareal – is vividly brought to life in the eighth volume of the Hispania Judaica series. Each of the three sections of the study, which is based on source material uncovered in local archives, examines many aspects of Jewish life in the Middle Ages, including the political and legal status of the communities, their organization and economy. The documentation appears here in the original Catalan or Latin and is accompanied by an English résumé.

The seventh volume in the Hispania Judaica series describes the fate of the Conversos in the Kingdom of Jaén at the hands of the Inquisition Tribunal which operated there for forty-three years, from 1483 until 1526. The Inquisitorial material from the Jaén tribunal is scattered in various archives and part of it has been destroyed. The preparation of this book on the crypto-Jews in the Jaén necessitated, therefore, intensive research in various archives. These limitations did not affect the vivid picture of crypt-Jewish life that is depicted in the sources published here for the first time, which offer invaluable information on Converso life and on the methods of the Inquisition.

This fifth volume in the Hispania Judaica series focuses, for the most part, on the conversos of 17th century Majorca – the so-called Chuetas, a phenomenon without parallel in all Spain. This study is based on a wealth of archival material from the records of the Inquisition in Spain and elsewhere including nearly one hundred complete Procesos (trial records) of 1677-1691. These offer the historian a uniquely valuable source of prime material.

The fourth volume in the Hispania Judaica series is dedicated to the history of the Jews in the Kingdom of Navarre in the north of the Iberian Peninsula. Based on documents from archives, the book relates various aspects of Jewish life in this Christian Kingdom. It describes the development of the most important communities, their economic activities and their work at the service of the Crown and the vicissitudes of some of the most important families. The book also contains valuable information on the rise and fall of the Jewish communities in medieval Navarre, covering their history from earliest times till their final expulsion; from the high position they enjoyed, to the deterioration and persecution that put an end to a fascinating chapter in the history of Iberian Jewry.

The third volume in the Hispania Judaica series is the revised and expanded English version of Anussim be'Din ha-Inqvisitzia in which Haim Beinart describes a community of converses in the days of the Spanish Inquisition. This fascinating story of the conversos of Ciudad Real is eloquently presented on the basis of the Inquisition files which depict the conversos' deep yearning for their Jewish past and the ultimate sacrifice they were prepared to offer for their continued adherence to their ancestral faith. Much additional material from the trial records of the Ciduad Real conversos and other source material from the Spanish archives revive and reconstruct Jewish life led clandestinely by the converses before the Expulsion from Spain.

This second volume is dedicated to the study of a Jewish community in Extremadura on the Eve of the Expulsion from Spain. Based on documents which are now published for the first time, this study reveals the life and surroundings of a community lulled into a false sense of security and endeavoring to build its life in peace while the war against Granada continues. The order for Expulsion came as a blow yet, undaunted, the Jewish community set out on the road to a new destiny.

Hispania Judaica presents its first volume, Jean Régné Documents and Regesta, which throw light on 114 crucial years (from 1213 to 1327) of Jewish history in the Aragonese-Catalan realm. This is the richest documentary evidence ever published on Jews of any land. The Documents and Regesta from the Archives of Aragon, originally published in numerous volumes of the Revue des Ĕtudes Juives some five decades ago and now brought together for the first time, relate the story of one of the most important and fascinating medieval communities, one which produced great scientists linguists, translators and writers, financiers and businessmen, politicians and diplomats, scholars and Rabbis. Yet, the account remains essentially the life story of ordinary men and women from all classes and all walks of life. The extensive indexes and carefully - prepared tables, maps and glossary open new avenues for further historical research on the way they lived, the laws which governed them and the extensive lore which they produced.
