The twenty-one studies on the Jews of Old Poland here collected explore many hitherto uncharted aspects of Jewish life and experience in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Crucial questions such as relations between the Catholic Church and the Jews, Jewish politics, antisemitism and Jewish settlement are examined using the integrative and comparative approaches championed by Jacob Goldberg, to whom the volume is dedicated.

The present volume presents the English reader with a representative selection of current research into Mishnaic Hebrew by Israeli scholars. Twenty-two articles are included in this collection: two introductory essays, which provide a detailed overview of the modern study of Mishnaic Hebrew, as well as twenty more investigations into specific topics of grammar and lexicon.

Studies in Psychology contains nineteen essays devoted to topics which have been the focus of the academic work of S. Kugelmass throughout the years. The papers, hitherto unpublished, represent research in areas of psychophysiology, human development, educational psychology and psychopathology. The volume closes with theoretical and cross-cultural contributions ranging from cognitive development to value priorities, aggression and fear.

Cities of the Ottoman Empire have drawn consistent attention in modern research, which implicitly and explicitly investigates the concept of an "Ottoman city." The great variety of cities in the empire, along with indicators of their commonalities, is clearly reflected in the papers presented here, which discuss cities from Tarbiz to Cairo, from Sivas to Sremska Mitrovica. The papers also reveal the diversity and profusion of source materials which characterize modern Ottoman studies. This volume contains 26 of the over 120 papers presented at the Ninth Congress of the Comité International des Études Préottomanes et Ottomanes (CIEPO), which convened in Jerusalem in July 1990.

This book contains thirty essays on Ancient Near Eastern History and Historiography, spanning the entire range of Mesopotamian history, from Sumer to the Persian Empire. Hitherto unpublished texts, as well as others long known, are investigated anew. The majority of these studies are devoted to the Neo-Assyrian period, the research focus of Hayim Tadmor, to whom this volume is dedicated.

The collection is based on a colloquium which was held in memory of Professor Dov Weintraub in January 1986 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The chapters are aimed at understanding some of the rural patterns of social change in Israel in a comparative perspective. In seeking insights about rural development in the modern world, the Israeli case is especially useful, because of its complex patterns of agricultural technology and organization that characterize advanced societies.

This volume includes research papers in librarianship, archives and information studies, representing a multi-disciplinary range of topics, such as history of printing, the book and libraries, the sociology of books and reading, archives organization and such new fields as bibliometrics and information systems. This volume presents a multi-colored picture of narrative art in Hebrew literature throughout the ages. Each of the 12 articles collected illustrates some stage of the development of the types of Hebrew narrative prose in its different periods, from biblical literature through the talmudic-midrashic and medieval eras till modern times.
