Faith, Hןstory and Values is a collection of articles, conversations and lectures that were conceived as part of the theoretical and publicized activity in the last few years (since the Yom Kippur war). This collection is a direct continuation of "Judaism, the Jewish people and the state of Israel" by Leibowitz. Some chapters are controversial and deal with arguments and debates that arose in reaction to his previous book. The issues Leibowitz brings up in his book are: Judaism as the topical social-political reality of this people as well as culture and humanities issues that Judaism shares with the rest of the world. The main issue guiding all the articles is the distinction between needs and values; means and purpose.

This book is a collection of articles, conversations and lectures that were conceived as a part of Isaiah Leibowitzs study and deliberation on the subject of natural sciences and Humanities. The materials for this collection were compiled from varied sources: other collections, journals, recordings, the Hebrew encyclopedia and more. The book mainly deals with the conflict between "facts" and "values". There are philosophers who see this conflict as the axis on which philosophical thinking circles, in all its courses and in all times: whether it introduces actual duality or just a duality that exists in our consciousness.

The notes collected in this book were broadcast on television as weekly 12-15 minute talks every Friday from 1986 to 1987 as part of the Torah reading cycle. These talks were not pre-planned or written down in advance but were carried out as freestyle conversations. Every conversation is about one detail in the weekly portion, whether a whole verse or a single word that the broadcaster wanted to pass on to the audience. The text was slightly edited to change it from an oral presentation to a written one.
