This book may have a colourful cover, a fancy title, and the occasional gory exhibit, but at its heart it is a love story: humanity’s love for one another, told through those who touch us, body and soul, the men and women of medicine. Most of us doctors, true to our calling, have spent our too-short lives striving to care, to comfort, and to cure. Others, as humans sometimes do, have used their power to exploit, deceive, and even destroy. Medicine has always revealed both our noblest and our darkest sides. Here you will find stories and legends, giants and bogeymen, beliefs and prayers, and the humble tools of the healer’s trade. Forgive me if it is personal, it is my love story, the love story of an aged surgeon with fifty years of practice under his belt. And yet, there is more to tell: many other stories, exhibits, and loves, waiting to be unravelled in future editions.
