The Two Mekhiltot on the Amalek Portion

This book is intended to advance the study of the aggadic material in the halakhic midrashim through a meticulous comparison of the two Tannaitic midrashim on the Book of Exodus - the Mekhilta of Rabbi Ishmael and the Mekhilta of Rabbi Simeon ben Yohai - within a defined biblical unit: the pericope of Amalek.

The internal text of the Mekhiltas presented in this book differs in an important way from the internal text found in earlier critical editions of the Mekhiltas. It is based on new and relatively superior manuscripts that were discovered after the publication of the earlier editions, and it is constructed in accordance with more rigorous methodological principles that are currently accepted in the establishment of Talmudic texts.
